Sunday 6th
This s an 8 mile walk starting in Chipping Norton and including the Rollright Stones.

This walk is a little further afield so for those wishing to car share we will meet at Upon Park, Northampton (see map below) for departure at 9:30am. We will then drive to Chipping Norton, which is around an hour away.

We will park in the New Street car park, which I believe is free parking. The walk will start from here at 10:45am (if no hold ups along the way for those car sharing). We will begin by making our way West along Shakespeare's Way to the village of Salford. North from Salford we pass through Little Rollright and onto the Rollright Stones (stone circle). We will then head back to Chipping Norton via Over Norton.

Unfortunately there is no pub stop en-route, so we will eat packed lunches at an appropriate point, however we could finish up in a pub in Chipping Norton if people want to.

Distance circa 8 miles

Map of car sharing location departing at 9.30am

Map of walk start (walk starts at 10.45am) (just off New Street, down road approx opposite the entrance to Sainsburys!)

Friday 11th   to
Mon 14th
The weekend will be based in Horning on the Norfolk Broads staying at Ferry Marina Cottages.
There are 12 places available on the trip so places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The accomodation is booked for 3 nights and the estimated cost for the weekend including breakfasts & packed lunches is c. £70.

If you are interested in attending the weekend please let us know by replying to our contact email.

Sunday 20th

Meet outside the Exhibition Visitors Centre at Marlow Park Car Park, Buckden Road, Grafham, Cambridgeshire. Parking charge of £3 applies. We will walk a complete circuit of this reservoir, passing through woodlands and nature reserves..

Here's some information on leading a walk

The basics
Walk leaders have to members of the Ramblers Association, being a member means you are covered by our insurance. We expect all walks to be -'pre-walked' or 'reccied' before leading the group of people out on a walk. You will need to let Belinda our walks secretary know the details of your walk at least 6 weeks in advance – so we can add it on to our website. Ideally she needs to know the approx location of the walk and distance as soon as you can.

Joint walks and reccies
Walks can be jointly led – so if you like the idea of leading a walk, but are a bit nervous about the map reading, the responsibility of checking things out – please ask someone who has been a member for a while if they'd like to share a walk. Again, if you're a confident map reader, but you'd like some company on the reccie, please let us know.

Deciding a route
Inspiration for walks can be found in the Ramblers 'Walk' magazine, walking books, plotting out a route on the map – or checking our 'back catalogue' of walks on the website. Many of the local libraries stock copies of ordinance survey maps which you can take out on loan (and sometimes walking books too). Again, its always worth asking other people if they've got the map of the area you're interested in.

The walks can be within Northamptonshire or surrounding counties. Usually we suggest a 2 hour drive (from the car-sharing point at Upton in Northampton) is about the maximum distance people will be willing to travel for a day walk.

Local, national and evening walks
Local walks are classed as within the boundaries of the county of Northamptonshire, and national walks outside the county. Its up to you where you want to lead a walk, when you've chosen the date. Its likely that we'll flag walks further away as 'national' walks so people notice when planning to come along. In the summer months we have extra walks, twice a month on Wednesday evenings. These start at 7.30 and aim to finish around 9pm. If you're volunteering for an evening walk, please think about what time its likely to get dark when planning your route...

More public transport walks please!

Finally, it would be really great to see more 'public transport' walks – either getting the bus or train in both directions, or a linear walk between two places.

Please use the email on our contact page.
