Local Walk
Meeting in the village of Southwick (Grid ref: TL017920) at 10:30am.
There is street parking along Main Street leading up to the Church which we start the walk.
The walk is approximately 9 miles long. The morning portion is just under 5 miles and is a combination of woodland and open fields.
Do note that if checking the route on the OS map (Explorer 224) the field portion up near Hostage and Briary Woods is easily avoided by making a slight detour and following the grassy perimeter bordering the stream. This avoids a lengthy trek through a plowed field so sorry to disappoint if anyone is partial to walking on stilts!
This walk should provide a good opportunity for some bird spotting so for the budding ornithologists among us keep your eyes peeled for Red Kites, Sparrowhawks, Kestrels and more.
A stop is planned at the Kings Head in Apethorpe. It serves real ale and has ample seating outside if we are a bit on the muddy side.
The afternoon portion is approximately 3.7 miles and takes us past Tomlin Woods and a couple of other woody bits.
