Day 3 - The Girls - Vikki's Birthday! - by Sarah Got up and got the train to Bohinj station, which was a cool station - old and clanky like the train! Met a guy who teaches maths in a private school in Westminster and spends every summer in Tolmin (can see why!). We chatted for a while passing the time till we got to Bohinj station. We expected to see the lake when we got off the train, but it was in fact 7km away. We turned this unexpected turn of events to our advantage and had a lovely walk through a village which was so well maintained that not a flower was out of place. Arriving at the lake was good. We hired some cycles and pedalled around the lake to a cable car. It was Vicky's first time on a bike and she was a bit wobbly but managed to stay on. The cable car was good. Vicky says: "I had a good time on my birthday but I was a bit disappointed that I didn't manage to eat any Bled cake. This cake is a speciality of Slovenia and I came here last year and ate three slices a day so was expecting to eat more of it this time but as yet I haven't had any." We cheered her up with the promise that she wouldn't leave Slovenia without a slice…. |
