Day 7 - by John

A late start and breakfast, before heading off to Postojnska Caves. Stopped at the supermarket to buy lunch and bumped into Nic, our New Zealand rafting guide and Peter, Sam's friend who we met on the first night (it is a small town!).

A windy drive down the Soca valley and then along the motorways (except for a diversion up another windy road because the motorway had taken over 8 years to finish!). Arrived at the caves and had lunch by the river.

The train into the cave left at 2pm so it was a dash for tickets and then jump onto the train for a 2km ride into the caves. At the end of this we went and stood by the English speaking tour sign. There followed a fascinating tour with lots of stalactites and stalagmites that grow 1mm every 10 to 50 years. This finished in the concert hall cave with it's 100m high roof!

Then a quick look around the tourist tat shops, under the 60's multi storey car park looking hotel!

On the way back we stopped at Goriska Brda Vineyard to sample and buy some v. nice local wine.

Back for a shower then off to a v. nice restaurant overlooking the bridge and river at Most Na Soci. Some of us had local trout (almost like Scillonian Mackerel). Back to the local bar only to find it shut, but the owner kindly opened it up for us and he sat and watched us play the animal game (see pics of Andy's sloth). Then to Bed.
