We left around 12 noon and managed to hit stop start traffic around Bristol at around 4pm and we thought that at that rate we would not get to Penzance until midnight! We all met up at Exeter services for a break at 6pm and travelled in convoy the last 110 miles, arriving at 9pm. We had the grand tour of town trying to find the hostel, we quickly dashed out to get fish and chips and beer (start as we mean to go on) managing to walk a mile from one pub to the next when it was only 600 yards away! Also got to see Penzance "nightlife" - interesting! Day 2 Saturday Up with the larks (well for some of us - John and Dan) for a walk along the front with Dan going for a dip in the sea (start as we mean to go on) then back to the hostel and a dash to catch the boat (Scillonian III - we don't know what happened to the first 2 but there's lots of rocks round the Scillys!). A very choppy trip over was accompanied with vomit over the side from some of the passengers (not any of our group) - land was sighted with relief. We disembarked with our luggage being transported to the campsite - the only problem was that John's luggage was sent to other islands, but luckily it was all returned by 6pm -good job it had one of the tents in! (Except due to confusion over sleeping arrangements this tent wasn't actually used on the first night!) A quick tour of the main town (Hugh town) then beer, dinner and more beer and to bed (start as we mean to go on). Reports by John (with some input from Andy) |
