Day 9 Saturday

Woken by heavy rain at 5 am dreading having to take down the tents in the wet, but by the time we got up at 6.30am it had stopped.

There had been talk (mainly by Andy) of getting up even earlier to go skinny dipping, but rather predictably that didn't actually happen!!

Everything was packed with only the smallest of showers by 8am, ready for the luggage to be taken down to the ferry (Even though it didn't leave until 9.45, we were told we had to be packed by then!)

We then wandered down into town to get breakfast but had to stand around till 8.30am waiting for the café to open, then worried that we would have time to eat in time to board the ferry at 9.15am. In the end the only problem was that we should have gone there every morning, as the boat didn't actually turn up until about 9.30!!

On to the boat and a sad farewell to the Scillies, watching the islands pass by before heading to the mainland (the largest off island, according to the tour bus driver).

Back into Penzance to pick up the cars and load them up (how did we get it all in on the way down?) popping into town to pick up our last proper pasties and hit the A30 for the long drag home.

Conclusion

Big thanks to Andy for a great week

Thanks to Esther for coming up with the idea for going there

Thanks to the rest of the group for putting up with John's bad jokes and windups !

Did well with the weather - despite the odd shower we all came back well tanned.

Well where to next year? Ireland, Tuscany or Butlin's Skegness ??

Some Scilly facts

The airport is the tenth busiest in the UK.

There's no MOT for the cars on the island

Land Rover to Mini ratio is about 30 to1

Petrol costs £1.25 per litre (but no-one has very far to drive!)

Report by John (some minor tinkering by Andy!)
