Day 6 - by Sarah & Vikki We got up early and were supposed to leave at 8am but Erica was still in the bathroom so we were 5 minutes late. On the train to Bled we were all quite quiet - perhaps the shock of an early start for some, not for John, who is well used to getting up at 5.30am. Arriving at Bled Vicky marched on ahead as she was acting tour guide having been here last year. We walked for ages and went through a gorge with crystal clear water and trout - which was a local speciality. We walked for ages again and were surprised by hooting of car horns. There struggling up a hill was a beautiful VW beetle, followed by another purple one and by a stream of different coloured beetles. We had fallen upon a bug jam. How cool is that ! Lunch was pizza and the promise of Bled cake, a local delight promised by Vikki. After lunch Mark, Erica, John went tobogganing on the scary steep looking toboggan run, while Sarah, Andy and Vikki had a little sit-down by the lake. Once we had exhausted ourselves with a strenuous 'sit-down' we headed to the island. To get to the island on the lake we decided to hire two rowing boats. John and Mark were the captains and rowed us there with only a little help (well quite a bit if the truth be told) from the navigators. The island was lovely and we all rang the bell. I think it is a good omen or something. Then da, da, da ….. came ..... wait for it …. the one and only pure thing, the thing I came to Slovenia for (forget white water rafting, cycling, walking) yes you guessed it - BLED CAKE - well in fact Cream Slice Park Hotel. All I can say is yum, yum, yum. After 5 Bled cakes and an ice cream ( the other ones weren't hungry) we set off to Lido. John and Andy were first in and John climbed Mount Triglav all over again (in inflatable form this time!). The others didn't quite. Erica and Mark then went in too while Sarah and Vikki let the Bled cake digest. After the Lido we headed off to the train station back home to Sam's place. There endeth the Bled story. |
